Orchha, a destination  with a difference

 

Orchha was founded by the Bundela chief, Rudra Pratap Singh, who became the first King of Orchha, (1501-1531) and also built the Fort of Orchha. It’s a town in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh state, India. The town was established by Maharaja Rudra Pratap Singh in 1501, as the seat of an eponymous former princely state of central India, in the Bundelkhand region. Orchha lies on the Betwa River, 80 km from Tikamgarh & 15 km from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh.

The best season to visit Orchha is from July to March.

People & Culture

The People of Orchha are religious and traditional. The literacy rate of this city is average where the male has higher literacy than females. Most of the population follows Hinduism. We can also experience Islam. Located on the banks of Betwa or Betravati, a tributary of the Yamuna. Also known as the Vetravati, the Betwa rises in the Vindhya Range just north of Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh and flows northeast through Madhya Pradesh and Orchha to Uttar Pradesh.

 

 

What to eat in Orchha

Being one of the most popular tourist destinations in Madhya Pradesh, Orchha is full of interesting cafes and restaurants. One can find Indian, Chinese, Continental, and Italian cuisines here. The local delicacies that the town is known for include Kebabs, Bhutte ki kees, Mawa-Bati, Khoprapak, and Ma Malpua. Alcohol is only available at selected restaurants.

If you want to travel to Orchha then you have to take a flight and train from the nearby destinations. Orchha lies on the road between Jhansi (19 Km) and Khajuraho (178 Km). Gwalior, another important destination in Madhya Pradesh, is only 120kms away from Orchha by road. You have to travel to Jhansi which is only 18 km by road and if you wanna take a flight then you have to travel to Khajuraho which is 174 km, the nearest place which is having an airport.
